What benefits are there to self employment?

What about council tax? Would I get help to pay council tax?

  • More expenses can be claimed than people under PAYE
  • Lower national insurance contributions, self-employed pay 9% for the earnings above £7,755, while under PAYE they pay 12%. 
  • No paid holidays
  • No statutory sick pay
Self-employed people actually pay a higher level of council tax if your business is conducted from your home. You need to contact your local council for clarification. At the same time, part of your home expenses can be claimed if business is conducted from your home.
